nurturing young lives

Babies

Osteopathy for babies is a gentle, holistic approach supporting health and development from the earliest stages of life. We address a range of issues, from birth-related tensions, developmental concerns, colic, and sleep disturbances. Our aim is to support your child’s natural growth and development, promoting balance and optimal function to give them the best possible start in life.

Difficult birth and Unsettled babies

Birth is a normal part of the cycle of life. However, birth is capable of becoming our first trauma. Even an uncomplicated natural delivery can leave residual strain in a baby’s body. In the event of a prolonged labour, a fast labour, or interventions such as forceps, ventouse or Caesarian section, a baby can experience adverse side effects. Misshapen head, haematomas, facial bruising, torticollis and clavicle fractures are just some of the possible physical results.

These conditions can cause a baby significant discomfort; but more than that, if left unresolved, they may lead to further challenges that adversely affect feeding, settling and adequately reaching milestones. A newborn check-up is well worth considering if your baby is showing signs of discomfort, is particularly unsettled or not feeding well.

Osteopathy is safe for babies

Paediatric osteopathy is extremely gentle and non-invasive

  • Our paediatric osteopaths have taken many post graduate courses in paediatrics and related areas, and are trained to work with babies
  • The treatment is tailored to your baby’s age and specific needs
  • Many babies find the treatment relaxing and enjoyable, and sometimes even fall asleep in treatment
  • Osteopathy can complement other medical treatments your baby may be receiving
  • We collaborate extensively with other health practitioners to optimise your baby’s best clinical outcomes

We understand that your baby’s health is your most important priority. Our practitioners are always happy to discuss any concerns you may have and explain the treatment process in detail. We encourage parents to ask questions at any time.

Dont forget about you – Mums often need treatment too.

Osteopaths readily see mums post-partum to assist with strains that have carried over from the pregnancy and birth process. Also new strains can develop with looking after your baby including breast feeding strains on the body and lifting and carrying a baby. At the Integrated osteopathic Centre we are a child friendly clinic. We are well prepared to help children relax and keep them occupied throughout the consultation.
